Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before getting in touch
- Do you use AI tools or subcontractors?
- No. Every job is handled personally by Lynden Howells – no AI tools, no voice-to-text software, no subcontractors, no exceptions. You get 45 years of trained human judgement on your document, not an algorithm.
- What file formats do you accept?
- Microsoft Word documents and PDFs are preferred. If you're working in another format, get in touch and we can discuss options.
- Where are you based, and do you work with clients outside Tasmania?
- Lynden is based in Hobart, Tasmania, but works with clients across Australia as well as internationally – currently including organisations in Japan and the USA. All work is handled remotely via email, so location is no barrier.
- Is there a minimum job size?
- No. Whether it's a one-page letter or a 200-page annual report, every job gets the same careful attention.
- How long does proofreading take?
- A typical 20-page A4 document is returned within 2–3 business days. Rush turnaround is available on request – an urgent rate is agreed upfront before work begins.
- What's the difference between proofreading and copyediting?
- Proofreading focuses on catching errors – spelling, grammar, punctuation, consistency, and word usage. Copyediting goes a step further, also improving clarity, flow, and phrasing. Lynden offers both: straightforward proofreading for documents that just need a final check, and editorial suggestions for those that could benefit from more substantial improvement.
- How much does it cost?
- Pricing is either hourly or a fixed project rate, depending on the nature of the work. A simple newsletter and a highly technical scientific journal require different levels of expertise, and are priced accordingly. To get a quote, send a sample of your document and your deadline – Lynden will come back to you promptly.
- How do I get in touch?
- Use the contact form or send an email to get started. Once a job is underway, Lynden is happy to speak by phone if needed – or you can leave your number and he'll call you back.
Still have a question? Get in touch and Lynden will get back to you promptly.
